2 hr - more affordable, less time for deep dives. Larger groups reduce the opportunity for interacting with the instructor.

2 hr recurring "Nature Club" - bi-weekly or monthly meet ups, covering different topics along a nature connection theme

4 hr – …a little more time to dive deeper, informal discussion

6 hr – …what we’ve been doing so far, room for morning and afternoon sessions with “lunch and learn” option. Room for some informal discussions and interactions.

All Day / Same Day: – some of our classes have taken this format. Space to explore a topic and get to know people.

24 hr+ overnight, meals and lodging – topic specific – Ample time and space to explore a topic, have discussions, time outdoors, get to know people over meals, etc. These tend to be costly but achieve more of our goals of building relationships between people and the natural world.

Gathering / Festival– Gatherings offer the maximum benefits of offering space and time to dive deep, get to know people and the land, while exploring multiple topics. Over 2+ days and nights, you can camp or stay in onsite/offsite cabin. Classes are generally half day, full-day or multi-day. Event also includes some entertainment in the evenings (storytelling, live music, etc). For a good example (40 years in the making!), check out Rendezvous: https://www.primitiveskills.org/

What type of instruction interests you most? *

Walking and talking: pointing out things, maybe tasting or demonstrating some property but without time to go in depth. Not easy to keep everyone together and on the same page. The most affordable and the least amount of planning involved, but not always easy to absorb the information.

Workshop: little if any walking, more doing: practicing a skill (baskets, spoon carving, identification skills), making foraged meals, etc. This could be done in a shorter or longer periods, with more content and discussion available for longer periods. These require more planning, pre-harvesting, preparing materials and equipment. Affordability depends primarily on the simplicity of the project or topic.

Hybrid Walk and Workshop: what we’ve been doing so far, trying get the best of both worlds. Requires the most amount of planning and preparation but has the best results, in our opinion.

Lecture: prepared presentations on specific topics, with little room for participant interaction or connection with the natural landscape. These are generally less effective outdoors and are therefore not well aligned with our mission. It is, however, easier to have larger audiences and reduce price of programming.

Family friendly: incorporating some hiking, games, storytelling, activites/crafts, with focus intergenerational learning

Youth programs: focus on kids within target age groups; games and hikes specific to group.
