Scripture Summary (Understanding the Context)
The Ark of the Covenant was a special peace of craftsmanship built by God's people during the time of Moses. It contained the ten commandment tablets, Aaron's staff used to perform miracles in Egypt, and a container of manna that God had sent to His people to feed them in the desert. God also gave several instructions on how this special item was to be cared for and transported. David in his excitement of taking the ark to Jerusalem forgot to follow God's instructions. Instead David transported the ark incorrectly and a person lost his life when he disobeyed God by touching the ark too. Today's chapter is a great reminder that in our excitement about certain things we cannot forget that we are to be obedient to God above all else.

Dig Deeper (Journaling)
Compare 2 Samuel 6:6-7 and Joshua 3:3-4. In Joshua God explains how far people are to stay away from the ark unless they are carrying it. Make a note of how Uzzah disobeyed God.

Compare 2 Samuel 6:3 and Exodus 25:14-15. A cart is used to carry large items on wheels, but how did God actually instruct His people to transport the ark? Make a note of how David messed this up too.

In 2 Samuel 6:16-23 David explains why he is acting the way that he is. Make a note of the reason he gives to his wife Michal.

What two things were done wrong in the transportation of the ark? *
