Nursery (9:45 am - 11:15 am) For children under 3.
Sunday School (9:45 am - 10:30 am) PreK - Grade 3
The children and class leaders will gather and begin with prayer. Then we will listen to a story from the Bible and use that story as a vehicle to begin to understand the core beliefs of our faith. After sharing an activity that reinforces the lesson of the story and thinking about how we can live out what we have learned during the coming week, we will enjoy some free time with a snack or on the playground. The children return to the main church service in time to join their family for the Eucharist.
Drama and Donuts (9:45 am - 10:30 am) for Grades 4 and 5
The children in this class spend several weeks developing a program presenting one of the stories of our faith in dramatic form for the younger children to enjoy. They thrive in this leadership role where they engage in planning everything from the sets, props and costumes to creating a way to tell the story that will engage their audience.
Grades 6 - 7 (9:45 am - 10:30 am) Rite 13(Please note this two-year program is recommended prior to enrolling in the J2A program described below)
This program celebrates the individuality of each young teen and his/her creative potential, while exploring Biblical stories of God and God's people. A foundational piece of the year is a special Rite 13 liturgy that serves as a rite of passage from childhood towards adulthood (akin to a bar- or bat-mitzvah) and is celebrated by and amidst the congregation in the spring.
Grades 8 - 9 (9:45 am - 10:30 am) Journey to Adulthood (J2A)(Please note that this is also two-year program)
“J2A” picks up where Rite 13 leaves off and helps teens create and understand the importance of Christian community as they develop critical thinking and other skills they will need in adulthood. The capstone to the class is marked by an "urban adventure" or community engagement experience right here in Baltimore! The second year culminates with a spiritual pilgrimage, planned and executed by the group, that is often a life-changing experience for all involved. In past years, Redeemer has taken the J2A pilgrimage to Arizona and the Dominican Republic in collaboration with WonderVoyage.
Grades 8+ (Days and Time TBA) Confirmation Prep
Confirmation is an individual adult rite of discipleship recommended for youth ages 15 and older. As part of their preparation for confirmation, youth confirmands are also required to receive acolyte training and serve on Redeemer’s acolyte rotation beginning this fall if they are not already serving. Confirmation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 4 pm at the Cathedral. Participation by youth in J2A (see above) is strongly encouraged but not required.
Grades 7+ (4:30 pm - 7:30 pm) Redeemer Youth Group (RYG)
RYG gathers every Sunday evening from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for fun, food and meaningful fellowship. Engagement is also an important aspect of RYG, and projects have included assembling care packages for people serving in the military, designing eco-friendly tote bags, and working with our friends at Paul’s Place. RYG also presents a spring musical, along with many other activities including a fall retreat, bowling, field day and outdoor games, an overnight "lock-in", and catching an O's game at Camden Yards. Our youth Planning Committee (PC) members guide and lead all our activities. Our first gathering for returning members will be Sunday evening, September 9.
Grades 6+ (6 - 8 times a year) Redeemer Service Corps (RSC) The RSC is open to all ages, including recent RYG alumni and local university students, grads, or anyone working who wants to stay connected with Redeemer. The only requirement is being committed to making a difference in our community! The RSC participated in many activities, including last year’s Party in the Park with St. James in Lafayette Square, Paul’s Place and Habitat for Humanity. A full calendar of activities will be published soon!
