KWLT Mainstage Plays: Director Proposal Form (2026/27)
Thank you for your interest in directing a play for KWLT!

To propose a play for the 2026-27 season, please fill out the form below by end of day December 12, 2025. If you have any questions feel free to contact our Artistic Steering Committee on Slack or by emailing ad@kwlt.org.

Not ready to fill out the form yet? You can see all of the questions in one place in our Question Guide.

Plus to help you prepare your application, the Artistic Steering Committee will be holding an event called Spotlight Connections! on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025 at 7pm at The Jazz Room at the Huether Hotel in Waterloo. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with directors, producers, technicians and designers to help you put together your proposals. Slides from the meeting will be available on our website after the event.

If you are looking to do something smaller scale, watch for our application for the Studio Series coming out in late-February, 2026.

Note: preference may be given to those directors who have previous experience with KWLT. Experience can be gained by joining a committee, helping back stage, acting in a production, acting as an assistant director, or directing a staged reading.

Please identify the elements of your proposed script that may require a content warning.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your theatre experience.  *
We are particularly interested in information that informs us about who you are as a potential director (e.g., how you plan to approach directing and working with your cast). If you have never directed before, how you will use the experience you do have when directing?

If you don't have an electronic copy then please make other arrangements to get the script to the Artistic Steering Committee (ad@kwlt.org). It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide us with a copy of the script. If you are proposing a musical that has a cast recording available, please paste the link to the album or playlist here (Spotify or YouTube preferred).
