TJFL Language Assistants Program: Application Form
The Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language (TJFL) Language Assistants Program provides opportunities for Japanese university students to be placed in a Victorian school as a short term volunteer Japanese language assistant. 

If you would like to apply to be part of the August 2026 TJFL Language Assistants program, please complete this online application form by Friday 15 May 2026. 

2026 Program Dates:
4 week program
Arrive Melbourne - Saturday 8 August
Depart Melbourne - Saturday 5 September

3 week program
Arrive Melbourne - Saturday 8 August
Depart Melbourne - Saturday 29 August

2026  Program Fees:
4 week program $2420 (inc GST)
3 week program $2090 (inc GST)

You will be emailed the outcome of your application by late May. 

All successful applicants will need to:
 meet online via zoom with the Program Manager for a brief interview between 18-22 May.  
sign an Agreement which outlines all details relating to participation in the TJFL Program
provide a Japanese Police Clearance Certificate confirming you have no prior or pending criminal convictions or charges
arrange own visa and insurances 
• pay the program fee by Friday 19 June

English Proficiency requirements
I will be able to provide a document verifying my English Proficiency. For example:
- EIKEN-equivalent - 2 and above
- TOEIC-equivalent - 450 and above for Listening and Reading and 160 and above for Speaking and Writing
- TOEFL-equivalent iBT 45 / ITP 450
- IELTS-equiavalent - 4 and above with at least 4.5 for Speaking

Fee Payment
Once your place in the project has been confirmed, you will be issued with an invoice to organise payment of the Program fee by bank transfer or credit card. Payment will be due by Friday 19 June.     

Cancellation Policy: In the event of cancellation a refund will be made subject to the following conditions:
A cancellation notification in writing made prior to 28 days before the departure from Japan will be the subject to an Administration Fee of $150.
If the cancellation is made less than 28 days before the departure from Japan the administration fee will be increased to AUD$250
