AncestryDNA Shared Match Quiz
When we work with our DNA test results, we need to understand the data in order to interpret it correctly - but the quirks of shared match lists can be confusing.

Ancestry says that 'Shared matches work best for closer relationships so you’ll only see “high confidence” matches (4th cousins and closer to each of you) in the list'.

Think you understand it? Try this quiz and find out!

In these questions, assume that the shared DNA estimates are accurate and that the trees involved don't have intermarriage or additional coincidental relationships.

Tip: Ancestry's cutoff for 4th cousin matching is 20cM.

There are ten questions in total. Choose the answer you think is the most accurate in each case. You can see your score at the end of the quiz.

Your responses will be collected and may be used to create summary statistics. None of the questions ask for personal information. No identifying information about you is requested or retained.

NOTE: A reminder about the permitted assumption was added to the quiz on 1 July 2018 at 10am.
