Director of Middle & High School Confirmation & RE
The Director of Middle & High School Confirmation & RE for Youth is responsible for developing, maintaining and administering catechetical programs for the middle school and high school youth and their families in the parish. This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week and the only benefit associated with this position is retirement benefits. The Director is required to convey the Church’s message and to assist in carrying out the Church's mission. The Director is required to uphold the standards of the Catholic Church in his/her day-to-day work and personal life. ALL Parish personnel are expected to be persons of integrity and must conduct themselves in an honest and open way, free from deception or corruption and in a manner consistent with the discipline and teachings of the Catholic Church. Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Works in collaboration and cooperation with the pastor and the Director of Religious Education.
Reports directly to the Director of Religious Education for children
Develops goals and objectives for catechetical confirmation and youth programs within the framework of Archdiocesan and parish policies
Directs the Religious Education process for middle and high school youth, including the involvement of parents in their children's religious education
Prepares and conducts youth faith formation classes weekly for middle school focusing on faith developments using approved religious education texts. Other social gatherings and services projects would be made available during the year outside of class.
Organizes all aspects of training in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation and maintains accurate records related to registration, attendance and student evaluations
Coordinates Confirmation preparation classes for 1st and 2nd year confirmation classes in addition to social activities and service projects.
Coordinates post-Confirmation religious education formation for all high-school students who have recently been confirmed. These would include social and service projects.
Coordinate yearly retreat each for middle school 1st year and 2nd year confirmation students
Coordinate Summer activities primarily focusing on social and service projects and would be scheduled with the agreement of the pastor.
Recruits, supports and trains catechists and volunteers for the Confirmation and Youth program(s); provides regular in-services to train volunteers in basic theology, the methods of catechesis, and in the use of materials to be employed in their teaching; encourages volunteer catechists to obtain diocesan certification and supports them in these efforts; evaluates catechists at least once a semester and offers constructive Suggestions for improvement as needed
Develops and communicates via handout materials religious education policies (registration, attendance, discipline, evaluation process, Sacramental preparation procedures, etc.)
Develops a comprehensive calendar of all aspects of the catechetical program and coordinates this with the parish's master calendar
Prepares annual budget and oversees expenditures after the approval of the budget by the pastor and finance committee
Maintains regular communication with the Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education and Archdiocesan Office of Youth; provides reports and information required by the Archdiocesan Office of Religious Education and Office of Youth and regularly attends meetings scheduled by said office. These duties include maintaining accurate records related to registration, attendance, teaching of the Safe Environment curriculum, etc.
Cooperates with the parish Safe Environment Facilitator in providing the necessary information about staff and students in the middle and high school Religious Education and Youth programs, including confirming that all catechists, volunteers and any paid staff have completed the Archdiocesan Safe Environment protocols

Other Functions/ Responsibilities
With the help of volunteers performs all clerical/secretarial work associated with the Religious Education program(s) for middle and high school youth
Arranges for the use of parish facilities needed to conduct the catechetical program (scheduling); oversees the proper use and maintenance of these facilities when in use for religious education purposes
Attends parish staff meetings; updates members regularly on matters pertaining to the catechetical program
When requested, coordinate and communicate with all parish organizations about the middle and high school Religious Education and Youth Program, staff and students
Assists teachers and students with all liturgical functions assigned
Completes such additional tasks as may be assigned by the Pastor

Work Environment
This job operates partly in an office setting and partly in a classroom setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. It also demands significant evening and weekend working hours.

Physical Demands
This is partly a sedentary role but also requires physical stamina to supervise youth.
Requires mobility to move about in a classroom or group setting. Lifting and moving of materials and equipment for presentations is required.
Must be able to drive.

Travel is required as needed to visit the missions of the parish, attend workshops and in
service trainings sponsored by the Archdiocese and others (as approved by the Pastor), as
well as national meeting in coordination with the Pastor.
