Westlake High School's CTE Internship Application
A CTE Internship is an educational opportunity which combines classroom instruction with an unpaid or possibly paid hands-on experience in a workplace. At your internship, you will have the chance to explore a career path, get an edge in the job market, gain confidence, develop and improve skills, learn to network with professionals in the field, and possibly even transition into a job!
Some things to know about this program:
-This class is intended for seniors who will be completing a CTE Pathway.
-This is NOT a work release class. There is coursework and some class attendance is required.
-Students must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the internship site.
-Internships need to be related to the CTE Pathway the student is pursuing. Students need to have 1.5 credits of classes in that pathway already completed or in the process of being completed simultaneously.
-Students may take up to a maximum of 2 credits, per district policy, with the chance to take it for two class periods a semester for two semesters. Each class is worth .5 credit.
-It will be required to complete 40 hours at an internship site per .5 credit.
-If students take this class for two different semesters, then their internship site needs to be at different locations or be different experiences within the same organization for each semester.
-Unless it's a hospital internship, students are expected to talk to the business/person for whom they would like to intern with and set it up with them. Mrs. Stevens can give suggestions, but to make sure it is a good fit for both the intern and mentor, we have them set it up with one another.
