First Annual Jan Vansina Lecture
In memory of Jan Vansina, one of the world’s foremost historians of Africa, the University of Wisconsin-Madison African Studies Program announces the first annual Jan Vansina Lecture. Please join us on September 21-22, 2018 to celebrate the life of the beloved professor emeritus.

Featuring Nancy Hunt, Steven Feierman, and Jacob Sabakinu Kivilu, the lecture will be followed by dinner and the opportunity to share memories of Jan. Neil Kodesh, Director of the UW-Madison African Studies Program, will also share updates on new initiatives to honor Jan’s legacy.

A block of rooms will be reserved for registrants at the Concourse Hotel. Registration is $50 and will cover the cost of the evening dinner. In addition to the lecture and dinner, we will organize a set of panels on various aspects of Jan’s legacy for the morning of September 22.

To be notified when registration opens in the spring and to indicate your interest in participating in a panel, please fill out this form.

We hope you will be able to join us for this special event. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to catch up with colleagues and friends, and to enjoy the splendor of fall in Madison.
