FAQs

What happens at a Virtual LLL Meeting?

We usually have a topic for the meeting, with one or more Leaders (La Leche League breastfeeding counsellors) facilitating the conversation. We can assist with specific breastfeeding issues, and always have plenty of time for questions and discussion.

We aim to make each meeting a safe space where each participant can ask and share as much as they would like to, and feel supported, encouraged and more confident by the end.  We ask that anything said in the meeting that is of a private nature is left in the meeting and not shared elsewhere.  We never record our online meetings.  Please don't make your own recordings, or share screenshots.

We also ask that if you have "unfinished business" from the meeting (comments, further questions, feedback) that you let the Leaders know, either in the meeting or afterwards.  Our aim is that you feel satisfied by your meeting experience.  If you aren't, please tell us!

A few tips to help you get the most out of online meetings

  • Make sure others can see you.  You will be able to see yourself - is your whole face showing?  Is there enough light on your face?  If not, you might need to move yourself or your device, or turn a light on in your room.  You don't need to look smart or have a tidy room! It's fine if you need to turn your video off briefly, e.g. to change a nappy, if you need to, but it's friendlier if we can see you as much as possible.
  • Make sure everyone can hear.  Please mute yourself if there's a lot of background noise at your end!  The meeting host can also mute you if necessary - you can unmute yourself when you want to speak.
  • Make sure everyone takes turns speaking.  The usual body language that says "this person would like to speak" is harder to pick up in virtual meetings.  Zoom has an electronic hand raising function, though it's often easier just to raise actual hands.  The meeting Leader/s will let you know the etiquette for the meeting and indicate whose turn it is to speak.  There is a chat box where you can type questions - this is a great way to comment or ask a question without interrupting the flow of the meeting.
  • Please consider the privacy of others in the meeting. Think about who's behind you, or in the room with you, and what they can see and hear. You might want to use headphones if you're not alone.

Can my toddler/mum/ partner/ friend join a meeting with me?

Babies and young children who need to be with you during meetings are always welcome and we enjoy seeing them!  LLL highly values the role of fathers, co-parents and other close supporters in the life of the baby from pregnancy onwards, and we warmly welcome them at our antenatal sessions.   In our group we have chosen to keep our support meetings as a space just for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.  We also recognise that some sectors of the community value a women-only space for breastfeeding -- and that other breastfeeding support organisations in Oxfordshire are accessible to fathers and co-parents.

You don't need to live in Oxfordshire to attend this meeting - feel free to invite pregnant or breastfeeding friends from elsewhere who might want to join you!

Do get in touch if you'd like to discuss any accessibility issues - our mission is to be available to all who need lactation support, regardless of ethnicity, disability, cultural or religious affiliation, family composition, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Breastfeeding is going well. Can I still join a meeting?

You don't have to have a breastfeeding problem to join an LLL meeting!  We value the mix of attendees at all stages of pregnancy and breastfeeding.  But if you do, we will do our best to help.  If you need substantial one to one support, you can get in touch directly with one of the Leader team by phone, email, Facebook etc.
