Every Child Reading knows that the foundation of a good program rests on the employees that are hired. We hire and retain highly qualified, energetic, student-centered individuals to work with our students during the summer, as well as throughout the year. Hiring occurs on a rolling basis. Returning employees with an effective evaluation are given first priority. Typically additional tutors/teachers are hired in April/May when we see how many students have registered. The executive director, Amy Thomas, will reach out to set up interviews as positions open up if you are new to the organization, or if it has been more than a year since you have taught with us.
Camp this year will be held in East Denver at Highline Academy Charter School located at I-25 and Evans, Littleton- located at 4000 S. Wadsworth (Havern campus- co shared by Vertical Skills Academy), and Vail- at Vail Mountain School.
Tutors are required to attend a pre-camp training, which will be held June 11th at the Littleton/Lakewood location from 8:30-3. All teaching staff are required to come to an initial camp meeting on June 12th at the Littleton location (Havern/Vertical Skills Academy) from 8:30-3:00. During this time, we will also set up groups with staff based on data. Educational assistants will be required to come to an staff meeting held Friday morning at their campus from 8:30-9:30, as well as help set up classrooms until they are finished, most likely. All students start June 16th and the Metro area goes until July 18th.
Hours in the metro area will be from 8:00-12:30 for students. Staff is expected to arrive prior to the students. Lesson planning is done outside of these hours. Vail dates are June 16th-July 11th with the hours of 8:30-12:00 Monday-Friday.
Y-OG Tutors: Typical group sizes for tutoring are 3-4 students. Tutors are responsible for creating individualized reports by the end of camp for each student.
STEAM Teachers: Classes average 10-14 students. End of Camp report is a summary of each week's lessons.
Rehearsal Hall classes averages 12-15 students. Rehearsal Hall Teachers are responsible for planning read aloud materials with written responses, as well as supporting/supervising 2-4 educational assistants. Staff is responsible for a 1 paragraph summary of what was taught/covered in RH to add to student's reports. Teaching certification not required.
Educational Assistants support all aspects of camp, including recess supervision and supporting rehearsal hall. Minimum age is 16. Starting pay is $18.29. Having a positive attitude, cooperation skills, and keeping students safe and supported is required of this job. EAs will be paid on a bi-weekly basis for the hours worked.
Pay: Starting pay for full time tutors/STEAM is $3750 for fulfilling ALL requirements including training days, working days, and reports. Rehearsal Hall pay starts at $2750 depending on experience, certification, and education. Pay can be deducted for not fulfilling any of these obligations. Additional pay can be earned for testing days outside of these required days, which occur in May and early June. They are tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 25th, Saturday, May 10th, and makeups, Friday June 13th in the afternoon. Bonuses are given for staff who exceed expectations by showing up well prepared, meeting students' needs, providing well developed reports and being a team player.
Conferences are held the last week of camp by tutors, typically on the final Friday, but can be held outside of camp hours based on teacher/tutor/student needs. Staff needs to be flexible the last week of camp to meet these needs. STEAM and Rehearsal hall support students who are not in conferences.
Tutors and Teachers are paid twice over the period of the camp in a lump sum. If a teacher/tutor is absent, it is the responsibility of the staff member to create lesson plans and find a sub. A list of subs is provided. $150 per day missed will be subtracted from the final paycheck if absences occur. If sub plans are not written, $200 will be charged. Absences need to be pre-approved by camp director prior to camp starting, unless it is an emergency.
Friday, July 4th is a paid holiday.
