Thank you for your interest in a twirling position with the University of Central Arkansas Bear Marching Band. We will hold auditions of for Feature Twirlers on Saturday, April 14 beginning at 10:00am. It is possible that the auditions will begin later. You will be notified via email of the exact start time and location.
UCA does not have a traditional majorette line. Auditions are for a limited number of feature twirler positions; therefore, we are very selective in choosing our members. All prospective twirlers must be good examples of talent, fitness, and showmanship. Equally, their tryout routines should include a variety of fundamentals, releases, catches, spins, kicks, leaps, illusions, gymnastics and choreography to showcase their ability. Feature twirler candidates are required to have a 2:30-3:00 minute dance twirl routine to their choice of music that incorporates one, two, and three batons (novelty equipment is encouraged but not required) and a 64 count downfield strut to march music (we will provide).
All candidates will perform a 64-count strut in one straight line, covering the span of a basketball court. A successful downfield strut incorporates good posture and body lines, a combination of baton work and body work, the ability to march in step, accurate placement of tosses, and good presentation skills. The strut must begin with a salute; then the first 4 steps must be a high-knee march. The routine should include 8 more marching steps at any time during the strut and must also end with a salute. No more than 3 low tosses and no more than 3 high tosses may be included in the strut, and forward motion across the floor should be maintained throughout.
We also require that a candidate be at least tentatively admitted to the University of Central Arkansas. We would suggest that candidates apply as quickly as possible. Write: Office of Admissions, University of Central Arkansas, 201 S. Donaghey, Conway, AR 72035
The Bear Marching Band is an ensemble committed to excellence in the performance and pageantry synonymous with Division I Marching Bands. Our Feature Twirlers are an important part of that excellence. The BMB Feature Twirlers are band members first and featured soloist second. They must have ability mixed with the social grace needed as high profile members of our organization. If you have these traits, we encourage you to audition for us. The BMB Staff looks forward to meeting you, and are eager to answer any questions you may have. Please call Stephanie Lamar, Feature Twirler Coordinator at 501-504-5048 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
