A Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an active group of 10-20 youth commissioned by the San José City Government to provide a forum for youth to voice their opinions, ideas, and concerns on youth-related city issues. YAC members identify and tackle youth issues, advise our city leaders with youth input, host special events, participate in volunteer activities, and address the needs of their district residents. There is one official Youth Advisory Council in every City of San Jose district. As the official youth voice of District 4 (representing ~12,000 youth), D4YAC members ensure that the opinions, concerns, and voice of D4 teens are heard.
Member Responsibilities:
-Attend YAC meetings every 2nd and 4th Tuesday via Zoom
-Dedication of time, talent, and ideas to promote positive change within District 4, and also to any D4YAC special projects, events, and/or retreats
-Commitment to the vision and mission of D4YAC and the San Jose Youth Commission
As a member, you'll.....
-Influence city government legislative decisions by discussing current City initiatives, policies, or events
-Identify, address, and create awareness of youth-related and district-specific issues through avenues such as special projects, events, and initiatives
-Increase civic engagement of D4 youth in the community and city by raising community awareness and gathering information concerning youth-related issues
