The purpose of this retreat is for faculty from each department to discuss issues related to assessment with colleagues in their department and with colleagues from other natural science departments. dB-SERC will also learn about the challenges and opportunities pertaining to teaching, learning and assessment in each department and the types of support that dB-SERC can provide to help faculty members and departments improve their course level and program level assessment.
For effective discussions with colleagues, we suggest that faculty members please
1. Choose 1 to 2 foundational courses and bring some measures used for assessment in those courses to discuss with colleagues from their department as well as other departments (If a faculty member has developed an assessment that he/she is proud of, he/she can share it with colleagues in his/her department as well as other departments to receive feedback and encourage discussion)
2. Bring program-level assessment matrices for majors and non-majors.
