"That which is empty, whose purpose is to be filled..."
That thing, of course, is a lack of rats. It exists as empty shelves, waiting for jars of rats. It exists as an ignorance of the glory of drowning in rats.
They say there are those who sent enough rats to drown the sun; they are then called upon by a massive rat when they sleep. Now, that is happening to you.
Just on the edge of your vision in front of you, you see a massive rat, halfway between standing and sitting, covered in a black cloak and darkness. "Thank you for spreading the knowledge of rats." It rumbles. "I would like to know how much you contributed this Ratmas." It pulls out a pad and a pen, and begins rattling (or ratting?) off questions.
"What's your name?"
Your answer
"How many boxes o' rats did you send this Ratmas?"
Your answer
"How many Rats o' Glory did you send this Ratmas?"
Your answer
"Does this cloak make me look fat?"
Yes
No
"Anything else you'd like to say about Ratmas? That was a very hurtful thing to say on the last question, by the way."
Your answer
It snaps the book shut.

This may be the place they call Ratbola, a certain quirk of rathematics applied to dreams, where even dreams are rats. People can say things they couldn't in What Is- for example, a love rat dares not speak its Name, or one's undying love for rats.
So long, and thanks for the rats. I hope you enjoyed the narRATive.
You softly quote the Ratly Bible as you ascend.
"Acceptable gifts also include cats, surprise packages, jewels, stabbings, betrayals, calling cards, snubbed acquaintances, Christmas cards, boxes of exploding misery… but rats are best and most good of all."
"If you end up being aggrieved by the RNG, you can also draw the Gift card at your lodgings, using Write Letters. It’ll cost you 1 fate, but surely that’s an acceptable price to pay for rats, right?"
"Consider the letter. This letter is immaculately folded into the shape of a rat. Oratigami."
"For I was hungry, and you gave me rats. For I was thirsty, and you gave me rats....
