Role of a Board Member: To serve as a voting member of the Board of Directors for the Catalyst Domestic Violence Services (Catalyst), develop policies and procedures, monitor performance and agency programs, and contribute to the promotion of the organization’s mission.
Board Meetings: Third Monday of each month, unless otherwise agreed upon.
If selected for the position, I agree to:
- Attend all meetings of the board, team meetings, and task forces on which I serve. If unable to attend, I will contact the board president or Executive Director in advance. I understand that missing three or more board meetings per year may result in my termination from the board.
- Assess and improve the Board’s own performance.
- Be prepared to discuss the issues and business to be addressed at meetings by reading the agenda and all background material ahead of time.
- Assist the board to carry out fiduciary responsibilities, develop policies, procedures and regulations, and monitor agency performance and programs.
- Insure effective organizational planning including budgeting.
- Hire, supervise and evaluate the Executive Director.
- Be an advocate for Catalyst, and represent the organization in a positive and supportive manner at all times.
- Always act for the good of the organization, the interests of all people served by this organization, and respect, uphold and model the organization’s by-laws, processes, values and mission. Be accountable to the public.
- Actively participate in one or more board committees each year.
- Complete “My Development Plan” each year and participate in agreed upon fundraising activities. All board members host a table for the annual event.
- Avoid conflicts of interest, declare conflicts before the board, and refrain from voting on matters in which I do have a conflict of interest.
- Work with the Executive Director, staff, and other board members as partners towards achievement of the agency’s goals.
- Make an annual financial contribution at a level meaningful to me.
- Undergo a background check at the beginning of my term of service.
