Class Descriptions
Bedford Junior High will be offering three audition-only theatre courses next year for students interested in performance, production, and design.

  • JV Troupe (advanced section of beginner theatre) - 2nd Period
  • Production I (competition acting class) - 6th Period
  • Technical Theatre I (advanced lights, sound, and design class) - 5th Period

The JV Theatre Troupe is a new course being offered next year at Bedford. Troupe is an advanced section of Beginner Theatre for students who are interested in learning about theatre through hands on production experience--aka creating shows! Troupe students will be required to participate in in-class plays, some after school rehearsals, and an elementary tour show. This course will be offered to 7th and 8th graders by audition only.

Production I is an advanced acting class is for students who have substantial on-stage experience. We will explore advanced acting techniques, build creativity, and broaden the diversity of characters and performance styles. Production students are required to participate in after school productions, our elementary tour show, and our One Act Festival Competition production. This course will be offered to select 8th and 9th graders by audition only.

Technical Theatre I is an advanced design class. We explore all elements of Technical Theatre: set design, set building, costumes, makeup, lighting, sound, special effects, stage management, directing, and marketing. This course will be offered to select 8th and 9th graders by audition only.

ACTORS
If you are auditioning for Acting (Troupe or Production), you will need to prepare a memorized, 30-60 second, dramatic or comedic monologue. Record yourself performing this monologue in a well lit, professional setting. (Make sure to dress professional and set your camera angle appropriately!)

Begin your recording with a slate, aka an introduction.

Slate script:
Hello, my name is _________________ and I will be performing a monologue titled ___________________ to be considered for a place in an acting class.

Then you will continue on with your monologue.

Submit your final video via email, Google drive, or YouTube link to BJH Theatre Director Ms. Lamie: alexislamie@hebisd.edu.

From there, you will be placed in the skill-appropriate class. Auditioning does not guarantee a spot in a class.

TECH & DESIGN
If you are auditioning for Tech, you will need to prepare:
  1. Resume detailing your experience, skills, what you want to learn, and personal goals in theatre. (You will find a resume template in this form.)
  2.  Theatrical Design:  Select a play of your choosing and design one of the following: one colored and labeled set design, 3 labeled and colored costume designs, 3 labeled and colored makeup designs, one labeled and colored lighting design for one scene, or a 5 cue playlist for sound design. Please include a 1 paragraph explanation of your show and design. Designs can be on paper, digital, or 3D models.
Email your resume, photo of your design, and your design statement to Ms. Lamie. (alexislamie@hebisd.edu)

From there, you will be placed in the skill-appropriate class. Auditioning does not guarantee a spot in a class.

Please fill out this form and send in your audition materials to Ms. L by Friday, May 10th to be considered for placement in Production, Troupe, or Tech!
