Dear dog owner!
The purpose of our current research is to characterise the changes and problems linked to ageing, and to gain a better understanding of their background mechanisms. The investigations are carried out by the ELTE Department of Ethology at the Senior Family Dog Project, which is funded by the European Research Council.

Although we are primarily interested in investigating how dogs age, we are looking for dogs of all ages to take part, so if you have a young dog please read on!

The questionnaire consists of three parts and takes 15-20 minutes to fill out. It contains questions about your dog's basic characteristics, behaviour, health, living circumstances, lifestyle, training history, and personality.
You will need to know your dog's weight in kg, and height in cm, as well as details like date of birth, and kennel name if the dog is pedigree. So you might want to grab your dog's pet passport, a tape measure, and if you do not know your dog's weight, a handy scale (which you can carefully pick up your dog and step on, and then subtract your weight from the total to get your dogs weight).

After you complete the questionnaire, you will have a chance to participate in some fun games with your dog. The games will take less than 20 minutes, make sure you give your dog a rest for a few minutes in-between games. To participate in the games, you will need some Post-it/sticky notes, or small slips of paper with some sticky tape, two identical flower pots or large Tupperware containers, a stop watch (most mobile phones have one), a helper to hold your dog, and some dog treats in a small bag or container, e.g. small pieces of sausage and/or cheese work well. You will need at least 28 individual pieces. You may want some wet-wipes to clean your hands in between tests.

Don't worry if you cannot participate in the games with your dog today, we can send you a link to complete them at a later date. All participants who complete the questionnaire and the games will be entered into a free prize draw. Details will be posted on our Facebook pages listed below.

If you would like to participate with more than one dog, we ask you to fill out the questionnaire and complete the games separately, for each of them.

Please note, It is easier to fill out the questionnaire using a PC and monitor/laptop or tablet, than on a smartphone.
We only store the data for research purposes and will never forward it to third party agents.

Thank you for your contribution!
