This is an electronic permission slip to participate in the Plainfield District 202 2025 Battle of the Books.
The competition is scheduled to take place in January during the school day (so students participating will miss class time), but there are no after-school, evening, or weekend pick-ups required. However, students are required to read their chosen books, which may include time outside of school.
Teams must include 3, 4, or 5 students from the same grade level. Each team will receive 5 books (listed below) so that each student is responsible for reading and becoming an "expert" for their chosen 1 or 2 books. The students will have approximately 8-10 weeks to read their book(s) before the competition. There will be six to eight rounds of competition, the early rounds begin as written, with the later rounds set up in play-off style brackets, playing down until we get an overall school winner. The winning team from our school will compete against the other middle school champions within the district in February 26 (tentatively), during the school day at Indian Trail Middle School.
As always, this year's BOB titles were chosen from this year's Rebecca Caudill Award Nominee books:
The Bellwoods Game by Celia Krampien
Final Season by Tim Green
What Happened to Rachel Riley? by Claire Swinarski
Simon Sort of Says by Erin Bow
Medusa: The Myth of Monsters by Katherine Marsh
Information regarding the competition will be shared with participants via the Grade Level Google Classrooms, so participants must agree to regularly check the classroom for updates.
