The Children’s Healthy Living Land Grant Partnership: Advancing Child Nutrition and Health in the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Region

  • Dr. Rachel Novotny, University of Hawaii at Manoa

Rachel Novotny is Professor and Chair of Nutritional Sciences graduate programs at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Director of the Children’s Healthy Living Center of Excellence. Dr. Novotny holds a PhD from Cornell University and a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist license in Hawaii. Professor Novotny examines maternal and child nutrition and health in remote regions of the world.  Professor Novotny has published more than 200 peer review papers and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Nutrition. She was a member of the 2020-2025 United States Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

Session Description:

This presentation will examine the nutritional status of children in the U.S.-affiliated Pacific region and present the work of the Children’s Healthy Living Land Grant Partnership. This collaboration among land-grant institutions collects critical nutrition and health data not included in current U.S. surveillance systems, partners with communities to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity and chronic disease, and supports training for the regional workforce.
