PhilaSoup Ambassador Application 2015 - 2016

    Overview

The PhilaSoup Ambassador program identifies local volunteers interested in hosting a Soup event in his/her community to fundraise for school programming or other local education-focused initiatives. Previous Ambassadors have held Soup dinners in their school communities to raise funds for student activities or large class trips, but the model should fit your vision! PhilaSoup provides support in planning and fundraising, as well as other opportunities for leadership. Ambassadors can be any members of the Philadelphia community who have the vision, capacity, and enthusiasm to plan an event that brings community members together around a need their local school, and its students, are facing. These can include parents, neighbors, teachers, school personnel, etc. The PhilaSoup model provides an innovative means of grassroots fundraising that focuses on bringing together various stakeholders and community members around a common meal, at which different projects seeking funding are presented, and funds are committed. One past example of an Ambassador Soup was a Winter Fest with student performances and a meal for community members, where students presented the different activities their clubs hoped to do in the coming year, and funds were raised through ticket sales, a raffle, and food sales at the event for those programs. Another example from 2014-2015 was a Soup raising money for a travel abroad program for middle school students, where families, students, teachers, and community members gathered to eat together, hear stories from past students about their travels, and funds were raised also through ticket sales, a raffle, and travel-themed on-site activities. Past Ambassador Soups have raised an average of $400 - $1200 through their fundraising efforts. All first-time Ambassadors will also up to $500 in matching funds, based on what you are able to raise; returning Ambassadors will receive up to $300 in matching funds. No event planning experience is necessary for an Ambassador to be selected; PhilaSoup will provide training and support in planning your event. We ask that all PhilaSoup Ambassadors apply in teams of two. Additionally, we require that all applicants provide proof of administrative support for their event, if it will be held on-site at a school; we ask for this because we have found it to be one of the greatest impediments for our Ambassadors in moving forward with planning their event, and we want to make sure you are set up to have a successful, easy, and enjoyable experience planning your Soup. This can come in the form of a signed and scanned letter, or an email to our Ambassador Chair from the principal's official email address, stating their support of your event. If you are holding your event on-site at school, remember that the matching funds you receive from PhilaSoup based on your fundraising can be put towards security costs for opening the building. Ambassador Soups do not need to be held on-site at the school you are working to support; if you are thinking you'd host your event at another space, please note that in the application below. We will be selecting two teams of Ambassadors for the 2015-2016 school year, who will host their events in 2016. Ambassadors will receive support from PhilaSoup board and committee members with event logistics, advertising and marketing, ticket sales, press, and organizational partnerships when applicable.
