Berkeley Math Circle-Upper Summer Program 2019

Two Week Summer 2019 Program of the Berkeley Math Circle-Upper.

Start date: June 17, 2019

Time: 9am - 12 noon, Monday - Friday

End date: June 28, 2019.

The early bird fee of $425 is valid until February 15, 2019.

The full fee of $475 will take effect starting February 16, 2019.

All students will be placed into groups (Beginners, Intermediate I, Intermediate II, and Advanced).

New students will have to take a take-home placement test in late May/early June to determine their placements.

Continuing students can take the exam if they would like to advance their group level. Please note that continuing students do not need to take the placement test unless they would like to move up from the group we assign them to (based off of previous group and performance).

Fee for the program *

Fee is payable ONLY by check written to UNITED MATH CIRCLES FOUNDATION and mailed to Berkeley Math Circle - Upper, c/o Prof. Stankova, Evans Hall 970, Department of Mathematics, University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA 94720-3840. Alternatively, you can bring the check in person and slide it in a sealed and addressed envelope under the door of Evans 713. On the note line of the check, please, write the name of the student and the group for which you are signing. Please, note that the Wednesday BMC--Upper, the Monday MTRW program, and the BMC--Upper Summer Program are independent. Students cannot be switched from one program to the other. No fees can be applied from one program to the other, rolled over to future programs, or used in any other way. Once your check is deposited, no funds can be returned. Thus, sign for the program only if you are fully committed to it. The Program fills in very fast, so take that into account.

Applying to Summer 2019 BMC-Upper Program Group: *

Every group will have daily homework related to each class, which will take between 1 - 3 hours, depending on the student's math background and experience. The homeworks WILL be graded. There will be pre-tests and final tests.

Beginners group: intended for 6th graders (in Fall 2019), and for advanced 5th graders, and motivated 7th graders who lack rigorous math background and skills. The material in Beginners group will likely never be experienced in such depth and breadth in a regular middle school.

Intermediate I group: intended for 7th graders (in Fall 2019), and for advanced 6th graders, and motivated 8-9th graders who who lack rigorous math background and skills. The material in Intermediate I group will not be experienced in such depth or breadth in a regular middle school, and some of it may never be experienced in high school.

Intermediate II group: intended for 8th graders (in Fall 2019), and for very advanced 7th graders, and motivated 9th - 11th graders. The material in the Intermediate II group will likely never be experienced in such depth in school.

Advanced group: intended for advanced high school students (in Fall 2019) and some very advanced middle school students. Participation in the Advanced group is by merit only, not by grade.
