We Need Your Help, The Forest Park Community Needs Your Help!
As a concerned residents of Queens, NY, We've seen firsthand the positive impact outdoor activities have on our community and our youth. Our children thrive when they play outdoors. It encourages physical activity, fosters social skills and promotes overall well-being. Moreover, it has been observed that parks with proper lighting see less crime rates and drug use prevention is more effective.

Forest Park & Victory Field are integral parts of our community that need to be accessible all year round - even during winter months. However, the lack of adequate lighting limits their usability after dusk.

Semipermanent lighting fixtures have been used in the past for several years. It allowed park goers and children usage of the field and the running track during the winter months. It served as a bandage to a much bigger problem. All this, while the officials unacted on a similar petition made several years ago.
During the time the lights were being used, we witnessed firsthand a great increase in park traffic. Children playing ball, adults jogging in the track, and people walking on the park roads. However, a vicious and ill-intentioned complaint from a minuscules number of people created the opportunity to take action now.

We call upon Queens Community Board 5, 6, and 9, Council Joann Ariola, Council Robert Holden and the NYC Parks & Recreation Department to allow for temporary lighting to be used at Forest Park and do their part to install permanent lighting at both Forest Park & Victory Field. This will not only increase park usage in our children and residents but also contribute significantly towards crime prevention in our area.

According to the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), well-maintained parks can reduce crime by as much as 20%. Additionally, a study published in the Journal of Epidemiology found that access to recreational spaces reduces stress levels among residents while promoting physical activity.

By installing temporary and permanent lights in these areas we can ensure these benefits continue into the evening hours throughout all seasons - providing a safe space for kids to play sports or families enjoying an evening stroll while simultaneously reducing potential criminal activities.

Let's light up our parks! Sign this petition today urging local authorities for immediate action on this matter.
