We oppose the two 2,480-head swine concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) proposal by Radius Ag, LLC., in Lee Township, Fulton County, Illinois. Weak laws regulating the extreme vertical integration of animal agriculture in our state fail to provide adequate protection for existing Illinois residents and farmers. The CAFO model extracts wealth from rural communities, degrades property values, threatens precious natural resources, endangers public health, and reduces the quality of life for those living near a CAFO. Rather, we support a vibrant, socially responsible agricultural system that produces quality food and quality employment for our communities. We will oppose this business model until stronger laws are in place to protect the environment and public health in Illinois.
