Routing policy survey
This is an informal survey to better understand how routing policies look in practice at a variety of networks. Please answer as many questions as possible (leaving some blank is ok too). E-mail routingsurvey@cs.toronto.edu with questions or concerns.

What kind of network do you operate?
Where is your network located?
Do you assign a higher LocalPref to paths through customers than through settlement-free peer or transit providers for a given prefix?
Why? (optional)
What factors influence your LocalPref settings for a given prefix? (select all that apply)
Do you use the same LocalPref configuration for a given destination prefix across all BGP-speaking routers in your network?
Why? (optional)
Do you export non-customer routes to networks that are not your customers?
Why? (optional)
Suppose you have a direct settlement-free peering link to an AS originating a prefix. Please answer the following questions.
Do you prefer the direct route using this peering link over all other routes (including customer routes) for that prefix?
e.g. Do you prefer the route [your network] --- [origin AS] (where --- represents the peering link) over, for example: [your network] <-- [customer] <-- [customer's customer] <-- [origin AS] ?
Why? (optional)
Do you export the direct route over this peering link to: (select all that apply)
How often do you advertise the direct route to non-customers?
How much of your settlement-free peering takes place at Internet eXchange points?
Please say a few words on your motivations for settlement-free peering and how often you engage in it?
(optional)
Additional Questions
What MRAI timer value is used in your network (in seconds)?
(0 specifices MRAI timers are not used; default for Cisco/Juniper is 30 seconds)
Do you do any neighbor-specific best path selection e.g., select a different best path for different customers for policy reasons (and not due to hot potato routing. etc.)?
