Mainland BC MFRC Youth Development Award
Mainland BC MFRC is pleased of offer the following Award opportunity:

TWO Youth Development Awards of up to $500 each for students currently in Grades 8-11.

Youth Development Awards support the continued development of an extra-curricular area of interest, for example arts or sports.

Applications Deadline: May 3rd 2024

This application form must be completed by the child of a currently serving Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member (Regular, Primary Reserve, Canadian Rangers, COATS-CIC/GSO--not including civilian or volunteer cadet instructors). Siblings of currently serving CAF members may apply if both the CAF member and the sibling have their primary residence with their parents.  Applicants must reside within the Mainland BC MFRC region.

The application form must be submitted online, and it is not considered complete until ALL additional relevant documentation is received. The application asks a series of questions about you, the serving member you are related to, the program which you are applying to, and three longer questions:

1) What are your HOBBIES and/or INTERESTS?
2) Describe your VOLUNTEER/COMMUNITY SERVICE activities. Include approximate number of hours served for each activity.
3) Describe how the program for which you are seeking funds will help develop your future SKILLS.

You may wish to work on the responses to the above prior to starting the application.

You will also be required to create and submit a supporting media piece (e.g., video, pictures, ideographic or Power Point) to board@bcmfrc.com responding to the following question:

"What would winning the Mainland BC Military Resource Centre Youth Development Award mean to you?"

Bonus points will be awarded for creativity!

Additionally, you must submit the following to board@bcmfrc.com or the postal address listed below:

1) Copies of previous CERTIFICATES/AWARDS you have received from your activity in arts, sports or other interests (if applicable).

2) A LETTER from a community member (teacher, coach etc.) that recommends that you engage in further studies in your area of interest. Letter must be recent--written within the last 12 months.

The criteria to earn this award are based on the engagement and commitment you demonstrate in your area of interest. This fund can be used for things like music lessons, sports camps, academic camps, etc.

Award funds will be disbursed upon proof of payment for your chosen program/activity. Direct payment of fees or supplies can also be arranged.  The Mainland BC MFRC reserves the right to offer an additional award if the two initial awards amount to less than $1,000 in total.

The award recipients will be required to participate in a brief interview or submit a brief written account of how the award money was used, the information from which will be authorized for publication in any or all of the following distribution channels used by the Mainland BC MFRC:  newsletters, website, social media, and additional promotional materials.  Also, the Mainland BC MFRC reserve the right to use the successful applicants' media submissions on the same distribution channels listed above.

Unsuccessful applicants may request advice on how to improve their applications for the following year.
