Girls on the Mic partners with public schools in Oakland and San Francisco to offer weekly audio training classes to girls and gender-expansive students for FREE. 

**Our curriculum includes: music production, coding, synthesizers, songwriting, podcast production, and more!**

Who are the classes for?
We partner with schools & after-school programs in SFUSD & OUSD to offer FREE audio classes to girls and gender expansive students age 11-18.

When are the classes?
Classes take place Tuesday - Friday 1-2x/week with SFUSD or OUSD partner sites. See dates below:

Spring Session: Week of February 6, 2023 - May 10, 2023
Summer Session: June 19, 2023 - July 28, 2023
Fall Session: September 11, 2023 - December 7, 2023

A note on attendance, student retention, and outreach:

We are asked at least once at every site, "does Girls on the Mic mean only girls are allowed to sign up?"

The short answer is, of course not! Girls on the Mic is open to all who desire to learn what we teach, regardless of identity. 

HOWEVER: Our mission, and that of our parent organization WAM, is to close the gender gap in music production, technology, and creative media - a field where traditionally marginalized genders are chronically underrepresented (less than 5%).

At Girls on the Mic, we aim to create a safe affinity space for girls, transgender students, and all other learners of traditionally marginalized gender identities interested in audio production - one of our goals is to make this pathway accessible and do what we can to “level the playing field” in the industry. We ask that students interested in joining our program who might not share that same background or lived experience, do so with the understanding and willingness to make space for the voices of their fellow students for whom this program is intended to amplify.
