The New Australian of the Year was introduced by the Australia Day Council for the first time in 2014, sponsored by Clark Rubber, to recognise the contributions of migrants and refugees in Australia.
‘New Australian’ is defined as anyone who have been in Australia 18 years or less, recognising that it takes around 7-8 years to fully settle in Australia, and another 10 years to engage and contribute meaningfully.
The award is open any new Australian who excel in any field – academia, business, sports, community, and other.
Selection Criteria• Must be 18 years or older• Must be an Australian citizen at the time of nomination• Must have been in Australia 18 years or less• Significant contribution to the Australian community• Must reside in Victoria• Must be able to come to Melbourne to receive the award in January 2016
