UC San Diego Engineers for Exploration Summer REU
Engineers for Exploration (E4E) (http://e4e.ucsd.edu) is a one of kind program promoting multidisciplinary and collaborative research projects with the broad goals of protecting the environment, studying wildlife, uncovering mysteries related to cultural heritage, and providing hands-on learning experiences for undergraduate students. We team student engineers with scientists from a wide range of disciplines to create innovative technologies that are deployed around the world. Our projects have seen us collaborate with ecologists, biologists, archaeologists, and marine scientists to develop prototype systems that are then jointly deployed in the field, providing the engineers with the real constraints of practically deployable systems and the domain scientists with the new technological tools they critically need.

This application is for the Summer 2021 E4E REU program. The program starts June 21st and ends August 27th (10 weeks) and is a fully funded internship.

This is normally a residential program where students perform full-time research on the UC San Diego campus and the intent is to run it as such in 2021. However, COVID-related guidance from the state or local government or the university may force us to run in a remote fashion as we did this past summer.

Regardless of whether the program will be in-person or remote, participants are expected to attend full time for the entire 10 week period (although exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis). NSF funding is restricted to US citizens and US permanent residents. Other self-funded students are welcome to apply.

Application Process:
STEP 1: As an applicant, you will be asked to complete the following application in consideration of your candidacy for the E4E REU program. You should submit your application by February 1, 2021 for full consideration.
STEP 2: We will begin evaluating applications starting February 3, 2021. Applications received after the deadline may be considered, but we strongly encourage you to submit all of your materials before this date.
STEP 3: Notification of acceptance will be done no later than March 15, 2021.
