Somerset Hills Chorus Signups - October - December 2019
The Somerset Hills Chorus is part of Music in the Somerset Hills (MISH), whose mission is to provide musical experiences of the highest quality to people who live and work in the Somerset Hills and the surrounding communities.
This fall, MISH presents Handel's towering masterwork "The Messiah." The Sebastians, our resident early music orchestra joins us along with professional soloists. We are combining forces with the singers at Drew University and giving two performances on December 6 & 7. December 6 is at Morristown Presbyterian Church and December 7 is at Drew University Concert Hall.
The rehearsal schedule is posted as part of the signup below. It is mainly Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 beginning on October 7. Rehearsals take place in the Parish Hall at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church until the week of the concert. The week of the concert has a special schedule, which you'll see below.
The Somerset Hills Chorus was developed to help ALL who love to sing become better singers in a supportive yet challenging environment. You do not need to have previous experience. Every effort is made to ensure everyone is comfortable with the music as soon as possible. Seating near an experienced professional is possible during rehearsals, as needed. Scores will be distributed at the first rehearsal and are yours to keep after the concert. We will be using the Novello edition of The Messiah. If you have one of your own, please feel free to use it. Practice sound files will be available for rehearsing your music at home.
Participants are asked to make a suggested donation to MISH (a tax-exempt organization) of $200 for the first session of this season. Subsequent sessions this season are less. If that is not possible, we ask you to provide us with a check and you can sell tickets for that amount in lieu of a donation. Chorus members are expected to actively participate in helping MISH fundraise and to promote our concerts to family, friends, and organizations in the area.
Students between the ages of 14-18 participate for free but are asked to offer tickets to family and friends as much as possible.
