'Poetry and Image Making' | Ethan Murphy
Time: Friday, August 20th, 1-3pm
Location: Eastern Edge Gallery, 72 Harbour Drive
Facebook Event: coming soon
This workshop explores the relationship between poetry and image making. The convention of titling photographs is a way to guide our comprehension and the way we make meaning from images. This could also be said about the way we produce them as well. Each participant will receive the same physical piece of writing as a prompt to respond to through photography. Participants will meet at Eastern Edge and be given a designated amount of time to photograph around downtown St. John’s freely. There are no conditions in the way participants can respond to their text, it can be the entire piece, one sentence, one word, or even one letter. No one will produce the same image or interpret the text in the exact same way. After photographing, everyone will return to the gallery and discuss the process behind creating and their responses.
