2019 Community Ocean Conservation Film Festival Registration Form
Join young ocean conservation leaders, special guests and members of your community as we kick off the 2019 Youth Ocean Conservation Summit weekend with our annual Community Ocean Conservation Film Festival at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, FL !

This year’s event will feature a special screening of the film The Smog of the Sea. This impactful documentary from filmmaker Ian Cheney chronicles a research expedition through the Sargasso Sea. Marine scientist Marcus Eriksen invited onboard an unusual crew to help him study the sea: renowned surfers Keith & Dan Malloy, musician Jack Johnson, spearfisher woman Kimi Werner, and bodysurfer Mark Cunningham, who become citizen scientists on a mission to assess the fate of plastics in the world’s oceans. Using sparkling underwater cinematography, an original score by Jack Johnson and shipmate Simon Beins, and live-action footage of the crew’s research, The Smog of the Sea makes an artful call to action for rethinking single-use plastic.

The event will also feature a showcase of student-led ocean conservation projects, ocean conservation films produced by young people, and a silent auction/cash raffle fundraiser with marine themed artwork and other items. Proceeds will support the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit program. Admission to this event is free, however due to limited seating an RSVP is required. Attendees can RSVP using this registration form.

The event will take place in Mote Marine Laboratory’s WAVE Center on Friday, December 6th, 2019. Doors open at 6:00 pm for our silent auction and showcase of student conservation projects.
