Cumberland County Schools High School Choice Application 2019-2020
CHOICE SCHOOL APPLICATION DIRECTIONS
All assignments will be for a full academic year. Students may change assignments during the school year only if they move out of their current attendance area or meet hardship requirements. Reassignment will only be approved for return to home school district.
Any student whose choice is to remain at their assigned home district school will not need to complete an application. Students currently assigned to a choice program will remain assigned to their current school unless a “choice exit intent” form is completed and submitted to the Student Assignment Office. Forms will be mailed to parents; completed “choice exit intent” forms must be received at the Student Assignment Office no later than February 8, 2019 if you no longer wish for your child to remain assigned to their current choice school assignment.
1. Transportation will not be provided outside of the assigned home school attendance area. (Exception: Busing will be provided for students living in the Lewis Chapel district that are accepted to attend Anne Chesnutt). Parents must provide timely transportation to and from school each day if no exception for transportation has been made. (Failure to provide timely transportation may result in student transfer to their home school)
2. Siblings who also make application by the application deadline will be assigned to the same school if older sibling is selected.
3. Selection will be based on space available. If your choice is not available, the student will be assigned to their home school. All Cumberland County students will have an opportunity to participate in choice schools based on availability, facilities, and consideration of special needs.
DEADLINE: Choice applications will be accepted January 7, 2019 through February 20, 2019 If for any reason your child is accepted into a high school academy after the deadline has passed, he/she may not participate in interscholastic athletics for 365 days from the date of acceptance. Please Note: To attend a Cumberland County school, the student must reside in Cumberland County with a parent or court appointed custodian.
No student or employee in the Cumberland County Schools shall on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, national origin, marital status, or handicapping condition, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity. This document is available in alternative forms by contacting the Communications Department of the Cumberland County Schools, P.O. Box 2357, Fayetteville, NC 28302 or call 910-678-2300.
