RSVP: Volunteer Info Sessions 2020
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Venice Family Clinic!
Please review the following information before you begin your on-boarding process:
Things to consider before volunteering with Venice Family Clinic
Time Commitment: We require a one shift per week (each of which is 4 hours) per month for a minimum of 6 consecutive months. Some volunteer and internship positions may have additional requirements depending on the role and the Clinic’s needs.
Commute: The Los Angeles area can pose some challenges when it comes to daily commute. Please consider our locations relative to where you would be commuting from. We suggest that volunteers travel no more than 15-20 miles for any weekly commitment.
Schedule: Please review your schedule and ensure that you have blocks of 4-5 hours available to volunteer with Venice Family Clinic during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm) as evening shifts are not available at all of our sites.
Shadowing: Unfortunately, we DO NOT offer shadowing opportunities for volunteers nor interns.
Technology Skills: Between our electronic medical records, patient portal, and everyday use of Microsoft Suite, it is imperative that all volunteers are VERY confident in their computer skills. If you are not computer savvy, we offer rewarding opportunities through which you can get involved that require little to no computer skills:
Pediatric Literacy Program: Promote early literacy by engaging children in our waiting room and inspiring them to make reading and education fun and accessible. To get involved, please follow the application process that is outlined below:
Per UC and VFC Policy,
The hiring/employment/of near relatives is not permitted;
⦁ If they would have the same immediate supervisor.
⦁ There would be a supervisory (direct or indirect) relationship.
Any exceptions must be approved by the head of UCLA Human Resources and the Chancellor, and must serve the best interests of Venice Family Clinic and UCLA.
A near relative is: relationship by blood, adoption, marriage, or domestic partnership including:
In-laws or step-relatives in one of these relationships, including relatives of a domestic partner
Other persons for whom the employee is legally responsible.

Potential Volunteer FAQs
How can I get started as a volunteer?
We ask that all volunteers attend a Volunteer Info Session before applying to our program. Here, you will learn about the different services Venice Family Clinic provides to our community and how you might be able to help as a volunteer. After the Info Session, those that are interested in continuing the on-boarding process are provided a link to the Volunteer Application and instructions on how to sign up for a Registration Day. During your Registration Day, you will submit all the necessary paperwork and medical requirements. Note: Not all of our volunteer opportunities are currently recruiting volunteers. At each orientation, the current volunteer needs will be presented. Attending an Info Session, submitting an application, or attending a Registration Day DOES NOT GUARANTEE you a volunteer role with Venice Family Clinic. Volunteer placement is based on the Clinic’s needs and the individuals fitness for our programs.
When should I attend an Info Session?
We encourage anyone that is interested in volunteering with Venice Family Clinic to attend our Info Sessions. If you are not yet available to commit to a weekly schedule but you are interested in getting started several months down the line, please plan to attend an Info Session within 1 month of your planned start date.
How long before I can start volunteering?
Your official start date varies depending on the Clinic’s needs, your role preferences, your availability, and your ability to complete the required forms. Volunteers have started within one week of their Info Sessions while most volunteers begin within one month of their Info Session.
