मुंबईतील 'बेस्ट' बससेवा मुंबई महानगरपालिकेच्या अंतर्गत येते. चांगली सार्वजनिक वाहतूक सेवा अल्पदरात मिळणे मुंबईकरांचा अधिकार आहे आणि ती सेवा पुरवणे महानगरपालिकेचे कर्तव्य आहे. त्यासाठी बेस्ट उपक्रमाकडे स्वमालकीच्या ३३३७ बसगाड्या असणे आवश्यक आहे. आजघडीला बेस्ट उपक्रमाकडे स्वमालकीच्या केवळ १०८५ (३३%) बसगाड्याच शिल्लक आहेत.

मुंबई महानगरपालिकेने नवीन बसगाड्या विकत घेण्यासाठी बेस्ट उपक्रमाला तातडीने निधी दिला नाही, तर मुंबईची जीवनवाहिनी म्हणून ओळखली जाणारी ‘बेस्ट’ ही सार्वजनिक परिवहन सेवा डिसेंबर २०२५ नंतर बंद पडेल.

मुंबईकरांना ‘बेस्ट’ परिवहन सेवा अविरतपणे मिळत राहावी याकरिता ‘बेस्ट बचाओ’ हे अभियान राबविण्यात येत आहे.

Mumbai's 'BEST' bus service comes under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. It is the right of Mumbaikars to have access to good public transport service at an affordable cost, and it is the duty of the Municipal Corporation to provide that service. To achieve this, the BEST undertaking must have 3,337 self-owned buses. Currently, the BEST undertaking has only 1,085 (33%) self-owned buses.

If the Mumbai Municipal Corporation does not immediately fund the BEST to buy new buses, the 'BEST' public transport service, known as the lifeline of Mumbai, will shut down after December 2025.

The campaign 'BEST Bachao' is being implemented to ensure that Mumbaikars continue to receive the 'BEST' transport service.
