We, the undersigned members of MUNACA, other concerned union members, supporters and community organizations, stand together to oppose destructive austerity measures that threaten jobs, working conditions, and Quebec public education.
The current policies of layoffs, hiring freezes, and excessive executive compensation—coupled with the outsourcing of public funds to expensive private consultants like NousGroup—are unjust and unsustainable. Meanwhile, the administration prioritizes opening Horizon McGill, hiring yet another senior administrator (and associated staff) while cutting front line jobs and services. This hypocrisy undermines any claim to "financial stability."
We demand immediate action to:
Implement a Moratorium on Layoffs & Job Abolitions – No worker should lose their livelihood while executives and consultants profit.
End the Hiring Freeze – Staff shortages harm services and overload remaining workers.
Cancel the NousGroup Consulting Contract – Public funds must fund public services, not line the pockets of private consultants.
Freeze and Cut Executive Compensation – Leadership must share in sacrifice, not shield themselves from austerity.
Reverse Opening of Horizon McGill - Hiring another senior admin with other staff to, cut jobs and services, is antithetical to financial stability .
Austerity disproportionately harms workers, students, vulnerable communities, and the services we rely on. We call on the McGill Administration to reverse these cuts, invest in workers, and prioritize public education.
