Summer 2024 HSHS Volunteer Application
Summer shifts will begin with dinner on June 10th and end with breakfast on August 7th. You are responsible for filling your shift every week during this time — you must be present or find a substitute to take your place (anyone can sub for you, even if they have never worked at the shelter). The shelter's vitality and efficiency rely on your unwavering dedication!

For more information on our shelter, please reference our Linktree or email hshs.volunteer@gmail.com! You can also look at our Volunteer Handbook for more on what working at the shelter entails, but this is a brief overview of shifts:
  1. Breakfast (6:30 AM - 9:15AM, 7:30AM - 10:15AM on weekends): Volunteers help prepare breakfast, help guests be ready to leave the Shelter by 8:00AM, and then clean up the Shelter.
  2. Dinner (6:45 PM - 9:15PM): Volunteers prepare and serve dinner to the guests, clean up afterward, and then help the guests with anything they might need.
  3. Evening (8:45 PM - 11:15PM): Volunteers start preparing plates of food for homeless non-guests who come to the door for a meal and help the guests get settled in for the night.
  4. Overnight (11:00 PM - 9:00AM): Our highest priority shift! Volunteers and supervisors sleep in shifts, so that someone is always awake to answer guests' questions and help them with whatever they might need. You'll be able to sleep 5-6 hours over the course of the night, and in the morning, overnight volunteers stay to help prepare breakfast and clean up the shelter.
*We are especially grateful for those available to be overnight volunteers!*

The shelter is located at 66 Winthrop St., in the basement of the University Lutheran Church between the Malkin Athletic Center and Pinocchio's Pizza.

PRIORITY DEADLINE FOR FIRST ROUND OF SHIFT ASSIGNMENTS: June 4, 2024 @ 11:59pm.
Later submissions will be considered on a rolling basis.
