STATE OF ICT DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA REPORTS
Recognizing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has an important role in the world today. With ICT, public and private institutions can make the lives easier for all. ICTs have proved to be increasingly fundamental to the socio-economic development of any nation. The lack of appropriate information at the right time will result in low productivity, low quality research works, and waste of time to pursue information and even to do research which actually others had done or in other countries. Nowadays ICT cannot be separated with daily needs.

ICT is one of the economic development pillars to gain national competitive advantage. It can improve the quality of human life and provides wider knowledge and can help in gaining and accessing information. ICT has become an integral part of everyday life for many people. It increases its importance in people’s lives and it is expected that this trend will continue, to the extent that ICT literacy will become a functional requirement for people’s work, social, and personal lives.

State of ICT Development in Nigeria Report is a project undertaking by Pan African Institute for Entrepreneurship and Community Development, Youth Alliance on ICT for Development (Youth Alliance), and African Centre for Citizens Orientation to monitor and collate/analyze data around ICT for development in Nigeria. The result of this analysis will be published quarterly to rank States in Nigeria as related to investment, education and human capacity development in ICT. This index will combine different indicators into one standard assessment.

The main objectives of the project are to measure:

• The use of ICTs within states in Nigeria and their contributions towards ICT development;
• Progress in ICT development in each state in Nigeria;
• The digital divide, i.e. how is existing ICT facilities and policies affect women and girls, what mechanisms are in place to enhance growth and development in the context of available capabilities and skills.
• Finance structure and contribution of each state to ICT development in their state, i.e. budget provisions, project implementation as well as providing access and infrastructure, and support to youth and women development in ICT.

The report is established to be national and reflect changes taking place in each states of the federation as regards ICT development. It therefore relies on available data which can be established with sensible confidence in each state in Nigeria.

REQUIREMENTS
At the initial stage of this project, we rely on individual, researchers, and organizations as volunteers to verify and collate data in this regards. Interested individuals must possess a minimum of NCE/ND and be ready to travel to communities in his/her state for project verification, collate data and present reports in an easy to understand format.
