TITLE: Educational Field Instructor (EFI)

REPORTS TO: Program Manager / Program Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
During the fall and spring, EFIs deliver outdoor STEM centered and leadership education during 3-5 day residential camps. EFIs lead small groups of elementary and middle school students on Outdoor STEM Centered field-based studies during the school year. Selected individuals will undergo orientation and training with TCC, which will include classroom and field-based program observation.

COMPENSATION:
Educational Field Instructors earn $125 to $140 per day plus $85 travel reimbursement for driving from greater Phoenix areas to the camp. Mileage isn’t applicable to local residents. EFI’s are provided on-site housing accommodations during school sessions.


PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
TCCs OSCE (Outdoor STEM Center Education), SEED (Students Engaging in Entrepreneurial Discovery) and SOIL (Students Optimizing Integrity & Leadership) initiatives are fun, fast-paced outdoor education programs taught at the camp setting located just outside Payson. TCC utilizes a rigorous instructional design to experientially teach and challenge youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, environmental ethics, outdoor skills, teambuilding, and leadership. Our curriculum covers a broad selection of themes and topics such as engineering & physics, leadership & team building, adaptations, landforms, energy, and life-science to name a few. TCC fosters critical-thinking, personal and social growth.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
Outdoor STEM Centered field-based studies include leading trail groups of 15-20 students through a variety of field-based activities (problem solving, earth science, watershed science, natural systems, etc.) during ½ day and full day sessions.

Teaches STEM centered and/or leadership lessons to small groups of 10-15 students
Leads large group activities
Acts as a role model for students
Inspect session areas for safety
Administers First Aid/CPR to students as needed
Conducts camp orientation with incoming schools as needed
Participates in departure send-off as needed
Setup and teardown equipment and supplies necessary to instruct the designated lesson
Keeps the Program Coordinator informed of inventory and supply needs
Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment to ensure the health and safety of students; assists in cleaning and straightening the teaching areas and dining hall
Reports to camp on time (1 hour prior to teaching time) for any/all scheduled lessons and maintain an update, accurate time sheet.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 21 years of age
Experience and enjoyment working with youth of all backgrounds
Desire to learn and explore the world and environment around them
Availability 15-30 hours per month
Minimum commitment of 4-6 sessions
Ability to pass background check
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and hike 3 miles
Reliable transportation
Must have a positive “can do” attitude

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Higher Education Degree in related field
Cultural sensitivity, experience working with at-risk youth
Current AZ Driver’s License
Current CPR and First Aid Certification or (willingness to obtain prior to start date)
