On Saturday, September 14, Pitt and Penn State will battle it out at Beaver Stadium in the latest installment of one of the longest-running football rivalries in the country. Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians will congregate in State College for the game. Allies and partners in the fight to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania for the first time in over a decade are organizing a day of action to take advantage of a captive, Pennsylvania-specific audience for a day of canvassing to raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of raising the minimum wage for working families and how raising the wage is good for local economies. To couple with our canvassing before the football game, we will have an airplane with a banner flying over State College the morning of the game in an effort to draw attention to the issue and to get folks to sign a virtual petition via text message.
We are also looking for volunteers to join us in State College for canvassing shifts between 7:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Volunteers will be handing out rally towels and asking folks to sign a paper petition asking PA legislators to raise the minimum wage this year.
You can sign up for a volunteer shift here. Please feel free to share this volunteer form link with trusted friends and family. Thank you for your advocacy and activism.
