INDIVIDUAL STUDENT AWARDS

The Mercerian Award
This award recognizes a senior graduating during this academic year who has excelled academically while making Mercer a better place through his/her co-curricular involvement and contributions to the campus community. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

The “Papa Joe” Hendricks Award
This award recognizes a student who has played an active role in encouraging the hearts of his/her fellow Mercerians and has been dedicated to unifying the student body and positively contributing to the Mercer community. Dr. Joseph Hendricks, affectionately known as “Papa Joe,” is a Mercer alumnus who served the University for over forty years in several different capacities, including Professor of Christianity and Interdisciplinary Studies and Dean of Students. All students, regardless of class rank or grade point average, are welcome to apply.

The Thelma “T Lady” Ross Spirit of Mercer Award
This award recognizes a student, regardless of class rank and grade point average, who exemplifies the qualities of the late Thelma "T Lady" Ross: unwavering Mercer spirit and compassion for others, outstanding campus involvement, and in-depth knowledge of and pride for Mercer University. Ms. Ross first came to Mercer in 1947 and later established T’s Corner, dispensing valuable information, advice, and motherly love to the entire Mercer community.  “T Lady” served the Mercer community with compassion and pride for over fifty-five years.

The Spright Dowell Award
Each year the Mercer Circle presents the Spright Dowell Award to the first year student who has demonstrated exceptional scholarship, leadership and service. The award is named after Dr. Spright Dowell who served as president of Auburn University for eight years and then as president of Mercer for twenty-five years.

The BEAR Award
The BEAR Award recognizes seniors that have exhibited leadership through co-curricular involvements throughout their time at Mercer. Do you know a senior that has been involved and been a leader throughout their time at Mercer whether as an RA, PA, student organization officer or club sports official? Please list the name of the senior you are nominating and a brief description of each of their specific involvements while at Mercer. You may nominate more than one senior, but please fill out separate forms.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION AWARDS

The Campus Contributions Award
This award recognizes those student organizations which enhance the quality of life at Mercer by combating apathy and providing campus-wide opportunities for involvement through programming and/or advocacy.  Mercer University values the importance of community service in promoting a sense of civic responsibility and developing leadership skills needed for the future.  The Community Service Award recognizes outstanding organizational efforts in helping to make the Mercer campus and Macon community a better place to live
 
The Educational Efforts Award
This award recognizes student organizations’ efforts in enhancing holistic student growth and development.  Organizations which represent an academic major or department and/or a career or profession are encouraged to apply.  Student organizations which provide programs that educate the “whole” person (including cultural, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual programs)

The Most Improved Student Organization Award
This award recognizes a campus group which has made improvements over the past academic year specifically related to membership recruitment and involvement, campus programming, and community service.  

Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award
This award is presented to a student organization advisor who has a strong belief in the organization, serves as a role model, has a willingness to commit sufficient time to the organization and to involve students making decisions for the organization, encourages the development of responsibility and leadership in students, helps students set up meaningful programs, meetings, and events that are consistent with the organization’s purpose, possesses a familiarity with the University policies that impact the organization, and displays an interest in students’ personal growth and development.  
 
Student Organization of the Year Award
This award goes to a student organization that has shown an overall level of excellence in its members, programs, and services during this academic year.  The organization should demonstrate that it does the following:
Supports the academic success of the members of the organization;
Seeks out opportunities to collaborate with other student organizations and/or University departments;
Supports the leadership development of students and/or plans opportunities for outreach and engagement with the entire University and Macon communities.
 
Community Service Award
Mercer University values the importance of community service in promoting a sense of civic responsibility and developing leadership skills needed for the future.  The Community Service Award recognizes outstanding organizational efforts in helping to make the Mercer campus and Macon community a better place to live.  

Bear Cup Award
This award will go to organizations that have filled out the Google Form https://goo.gl/forms/D35MdKBCk4n1e6yE3 . This award encompass the following categories: Participation, Service, Collaborations, Finances & School Spirit.
