Welcome to the Craft-my-Street Minecraft Server!
We're excited that you're interested in joining our special Minecraft server! Before you jump in and start building, there are a few important things we need you and your parent/guardian to understand.
This Minecraft server is part of a research project run by the Spatial Dynamics Lab at University College Dublin. We're studying how young people like you can help shape their communities using fun and engaging tools like Minecraft. The Craft-my-Street (CMS) project is all about giving young people a stronger voice in decisions about their local areas, especially when it comes to important topics like sustainability and climate change.
You might have heard about our pilot project with Smart Docklands, where 130 children from Dublin schools got to map their school areas in a Minecraft replica. This server is a continuation of that exciting work, but now with new activities focused on building your community!
When you join, you'll be able to claim a plot and start building in a Minecraft replica of real Dublin sites, like O'Connell Bridge, O'Casey Bridge, the GPO, or Dawson. There's even a fun speed run mini-game where you can map Dublin in Minecraft! Your awesome builds can be voted on by the community, and the top creations will be featured on our main map. This building activity helps our researchers understand your ideas and suggestions for improving your surroundings.
To get permission to join the server, we need you (or your parent/guardian if you are under 18) to read all the instructions in this form and sign the consent form. This helps us ensure everyone understands how the project works and how your participation will help us learn.
The research team from the UCD Spatial Dynamics Lab, including Dr. Chiara Cocco, Dr. Ítalo de Sena, and Msc. James Delaney, will be moderating the server.
