In Hiatus Studios Presents: "Making Toast" Contest Submission Rules & Guidelines
In honor of the delicious delicacy that is TOAST, In Hiatus Studios is inviting eager artists to tell their own short comic stories about “Making Toast.”

These short tales should submitted as a 1-3 page story in sequential art (comic) form and should show off your most creative ways to use drama, intrigue, horror, mishaps…love … go wild and have fun with it, as long as the story follows the theme of “Making Toast.”

The In Hiatus Team will choose our favorite three submissions and announce the winners on February 23, 2019 (AKA National Toast Day!...see what we did there), which will then be published in our “Making Toast” Zine!

All submissions must meet the submission guidelines, or they may be deemed null and void.

Submission Guidelines

-All submission must be received by December 31, 2018 at 11:59pm.
-Min. 1 page - Max. 3 pages
-Final images in JPG format
-300 DPI
-11in x in with an 1/8in bleed edge around all sides.*
-Color** or Black & White are accepted.
-Any medium is acceptable, but the work must be submitted digitally.
-No More than 2 entries per person permitted.

*keep in mind that some of the art in the 1/8in bleed area may be cut off during printing
**For artists that may work in RGB, please note that printed work will be CMYK

Terms and Conditions

By entering a contest entrants accept these terms and conditions together with any specific instructions and terms for such contest which may be mentioned in any electronic messages, or on the website, or communicated to entrants in any other way (“contest information”). Such contest information shall prevail in the event of there being any inconsistency between these contest terms and conditions and any contest information.

In Hiatus Studios may cancel or amend any contest, contest information, or these terms and conditions without prior notice. Any changes will be posted either within the contest information or these terms and conditions.

This contest is open to all persons within or outside the United States. However entrants under the age of 18 must insert contact details of a parent or guardian when entering.

Where an entrant requires the details of his/her parent/guardian to be entered onto the entry forms, In Hiatus Studios may ask for proof of age and in all contest evidence to verify the identity of that entrant at any time, and may use any channels and methods available to carry out checks of any details provided. Entrants may only enter the contest in their own name.

The opening and closing dates and times for entries are as indicated in the contest information. Any entries received before the opening and after the closing of the contest will be invalid and will not be entered into the contest.

By entering the contest entrants warrant that all information submitted by them is true, current, and complete. Entrants also warrant that they are the copyright owners of any copyright works submitted, e.g. photographs and drawings, and In Hiatus Studios’ use of such works (which you will permit) will not infringe the rights of any third party.

Entry to the contest may only be made through the applicable method(s) indicated in the contest information.

Any entries which are incomplete, incorrect, inaudible, incomprehensible, or not received by In Hiatus Studios will be void.

In Hiatus Studios will not be liable to reimburse expenses incurred in making an entry in any contest. Where In Hiatus Studios decides in its sole discretion that an entrant is eligible for a refund, eligibility for refunds will be notified to relevant entrants. In Hiatus Studios reserves the right to refuse to refund any messages where it suspects dishonest or fraudulent conduct on the sender’s part or where the entrant has not complied with the rules of the contest.

There is no fee for submitting to the contest.

The Submission

By entering the contest entrants warrant that all submissions and the work therein are their original work and have not been submitted to another contest, competition, or third party for distribution.

In Hiatus Studios does not, nor will not, own the submission. The submission will remain the property of the entrant.

By entering the contest entrants grant In Hiatus Studios the right to publish, distribute, and use for media and promotional material the submission and forego any monetary claim earned from the sale and distribution of the submission under In Hiatus Studios.

The entrant retains the right to sell, distribute, publish the submission for their own personal use.

The entrant agrees not to enter the submission into contract with a third party that may lead to In Hiatus Studios being unable to sell, print, distribute, use for media and promotional material indefinitely, unless mutually agreed upon between In Hiatus Studios and the entrant. Whereby this agreement will be produced in writing and signed by both parties.

Prizes

The prize is as specified in the contest information.

The process for determining the winner of the prize is as indicated in the contest information.

In Hiatus Studios will attempt to notify the winner within 21 days after the closing date, or as otherwise indicated in the contest information, and where time is of the essence for such a period as In Hiatus Studios shall in its absolute discretion deem reasonable. He/she will be contacted on the phone number, by SMS text, or email address provided when entering the contest. If In Hiatus Studios is unable to notify the winner, or if the winner fails to respond within the fixed time period as specified and/or provide an address for delivery of the prize, this may result in forfeiture of the prize.

In Hiatus Studios may in its sole discretion refuse to provide a prize, or seek its recovery, in the event of non-entitlement under these terms or an entrant’s breach of these terms, In Hiatus Studios’ website terms of use, fraud, dishonesty, or other inappropriate or improper conduct including but not limited to the use of technology which enables an entrant to evade charges or entry requirements.

Any entrant who enters or attempts to enter the contest in a manner, which in In Hiatus Studios’ determination is contrary to these terms and conditions or by its nature is unfair to other entrants may be removed from the contest at In Hiatus Studios’ sole discretion.

In Hiatus Studios reserves the right to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the contest in whole or in part, at its sole discretion, if it believes the contest is not capable of being conducted as specified in these terms and conditions or in the event of a virus, computer bug or unauthorized human intervention or any other cause that is beyond the reasonable control of In Hiatus Studios that could corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality, or normal course of the Contest.

In Hiatus Studios shall try to deliver the prize to the winner within 28 days from the date of determination of winners, unless otherwise specified to the winner. Delivery restrictions may apply. No cash equivalent (where applicable) or alternative prize will be given and the prize is non-transferable and non-exchangeable. However, In Hiatus Studios reserves the right to change the prize due to circumstances beyond its control or to offer an alternative of similar value.

In relation to all contests, the first name and surname of the winner may be published by In Hiatus Studios and entrants grant to In Hiatus Studios a non-exclusive license to use and publish their entry in any media for the purpose of announcing the winner.

Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit In Hiatus Studios’ liability for death or personal injury caused by their staff or supplier’s negligence or for fraud. Subject to this, In Hiatus Studios cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering the contest or as a result of accepting any prize. In Hiatus Studios is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software failure of any email or entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the
Internet, telephone lines or at any web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer or mobile telephone related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the contest.

In Hiatus Studios cannot promise that the services relating to the contest will be free from errors or omissions nor that they will be available uninterrupted and in a fully operating condition. These services may be suspended temporarily and without notice in the case of system failure, maintenance or repair or for reasons reasonably beyond the control of In Hiatus Studios. In Hiatus Studios will not be liable in the event that all or any part of the service relating to the contest is discontinued, modified or changed in any way.

In the event that any entrant does not, or is unable to, comply with and meet these terms and conditions and the contest information, In Hiatus Studios shall be entitled at its sole discretion to disqualify such entrant, without any further liability to such entrant. In these circumstances, any prize(s) won by the entrant may be forfeited and In Hiatus Studios reserves the right to reclaim any prize(s) already distributed to the entrant. Any entrant must comply with any directions given to him or her by In Hiatus Studios including but not limited to any and all relevant laws, rules and applicable regulatory codes.

The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Terms and Conditions shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
