An overview of the Volleyball Futures programme explaining the benefits for coaches, regional programmes and athletes

10.45am – 11.30am Athlete Physical Development; Gary Hutt, Director Volleyscience
This classroom session aims to give you an understanding of physical development. Gary will explain the latest physical development models, why Volleyball England commissioned research by the University of Essex and the key findings. He will explain why the Volleyball Futures testing battery was chosen, what the tests tell us and how to use them.

11.30am – 12.30am Athlete Physical Development, Gary Hutt, Director Volleyscience
During this practical session, Gary will work with athletes from the East Midlands squad to demonstrate the importance of movement competency and muscle balance. He will provide lots of practical guidance for training fundamental strength and jump training basics. Delegates are welcome to bring kit and join in!

12.30pm – 1.15pm Lunch

1.15pm – 1.45pm A chance to influence the Volleyball England principles for talent development

1.45pm – 3.00pm Athlete Tactical, Technical and Psychological Development; Bertrand Olie, Academies and Technical Lead
Coaching the East Midlands athletes, Bertrand will demonstrate how the Volleyball England game-based approach can be used develop athlete’s technical skills and tactical awareness. He will explain the focusing, shaping and rewarding phases of the Volleyball England model. He will also share the core psychological attributes of performance volleyball athletes and provide examples of how they can be developed in training sessions.

3.00pm - 3.15pm Teas and Coffee

3.15pm – 4.00pm Talent Development Coach Capabilities; Gillian Harrison, Technical and Talent Coordinator
A chance to reflect on the knowledge, skills and competencies a talent development coach requires.
