Register Voters on Rikers Island with                        Vote in NYC Jails Coalition
Thank you so much for agreeing to volunteer for the Vote in NYC Jails Coalition voter registration drive on Rikers Island. Voting is a powerful tool for maintaining democracy and ensuring representation. 95% of our community housed at Rikers are eligible voters and we are working to enfranchise them.

SIGN UP: After you sign up below, you will receive a confirmation message. A week before your registration date you will receive more information.

NOTE: We are unable to accommodate varying schedules as we have a secure vehicle provided by the DOC for our entire visit. Please plan to spend from 9:00am – 3:00pm for this.

If your situation changes – please let us know via email, text or call.

Where to meet:
Bulova building-75-20 Astoria Blvd, Queens, NY 11370.
The Q47 bus stops at the entrance of the Bulova building.
9:00am – Arrival to Bulova Building
3:00pm – Anticipated arrival back to the Bulova Building.

Logistics:
DOC contacts will have a van for us and they will drive us to the respective facilities on Rikers Island or other detention centers.

What to Bring:
Your patience. While we attempt to have things well organized, please keep in mind this is a jail and things are not always predictable.
● A valid ID is required for entry to Rikers
● Wallet, lunch and cellphones which we have to leave in the van and when we break we can retrieve those items, otherwise they remain in the locked van the entire time.
● A book, sense of humor or something to pass the time while we wait for entry approval.

With respect to how we are facilitating the voter drive here are some key points:
-We split into two teams depending on the total number of volunteers.
-DOC assigns an escort officer to each of the teams.
-The escort officer takes us into the housing areas and the day room of each of the houses.
-We make an announcement to the house about what we are there to do.
-We then go into a 5 minute presentation about the importance of voting and how it is interconnected to their incarceration.
-The team then sets up at tables with the applications and materials about voting, which we also distribute throughout.

Thanks so much for your assistance! We appreciate it.
