Volunteer/Intern Application Form
Welcome to Imani's Safehouse volunteer form! We believe in freedom through autonomy. Imani’s Safehouse aims to offer emergency safe housing for men, women, and children upon leaving prisons and hospitals. We need to feel safe. Our programs are antiracist and abolitionist initiatives that aim to support the African diaspora impacted by the justice system. We support the social-economic and political autonomy of the people we serve.

We are currently seeking volunteers as well as interns for credit for the following positions. Please indicate what position you are applying for in the provided space below.

*Outside community members to write for Imani's Safehouse Community Connects. Each individual volunteer will be paired with one incarcerated community member in one of three New York State women's prisons. Requires 5-15 hours a month of reading and responding to letters and/or emails, depending on level of communication (volunteer only).
*Social media/website management. Volunteers will be required 2-3 hours a week; interns will be required 7-10 hours a week (volunteer or intern).
*Development research and grant-writing. Volunteers will be required 2-3 hours a week; interns will be required 7-10 hours a week (volunteer or intern).

Imani's Safehouse team currently meets Sundays from 11:30AM-1PM via Google Meet. Community Connects Volunteers are only asked to commit to one meeting a month, but are able to attend all. Social Media and Development volunteers and interns are asked to attend most meetings to stay up to date with the organization and discuss strategy and ongoing work. Notes will be provided for weeks that need to be missed.
