Title IA 
Improving Basic Programs (Simon Huff (907)543-4985)

The purpose of the Title IA program is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. Funding is based on U.S. Census Bureau counts of children from low-income families residing in the school district.

  • Implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
  • Provide extended learning opportunities forstudents (Ready & Summer Academies)
  • Conduct professional development in bestpractices (1st and 2nd Year Teacher Induction,Annual Fall Conference, Associate TeacherRetreat)

Education of Migratory Children (Jazz LaValle: 543-4831)

The purpose of the Migrant Education program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma that prepares them for responsible citizenship.

Title II

Preparing, Recruiting, and Retaining (Ed Pekar: 543-4886)

 The purpose of the Title II program is to increase student academic achievement by improving teacher and principal quality. Funds can be used for preparation and qualifications of new teachers, recruitment and hiring, induction, professional development, and retention.

  • Implement the Principal Intern Project
  • Mentor in-district principals
  • Implement the STAY (Supporting TeachersAcross Years) Program
  • Sponsor student teachers
  • Provide a transition coordinator to offerguidance and support as new hires move torural Alaska
  • Provide professional development andcareer ladder opportunities (LKRise, SummerArt Institutes, etc.)

Title III
Language Instruction for ELL Students

The Title III English Language Acquisition program helps to ensure that children who are limited English proficient attain English proficiency and achieve at high levels in core academics. Title III funds must support
high-quality language instruction educational programs that are designed to increase English proficiency and academic achievement of limited English proficient students.

• Develop Yup’ik/Cup’ig instructional materials
• Provide Dual Language professional development
• Participate in bilingual conferences
• Conduct Dual Language community meetings
• Conduct Dual Language calibration visits

Student Support and Enrichment

The overarching goal of Title IVA is to improve academic achievement by advancing the
following three priorities: Well-Rounded Education, Safe and Healthy Students, and Effective Use of Technology

• Integrate Arts into the classroom with art liaisons at each site
• Host artists in residence at each site
• Provide a school safety officer
• Implement the Sources of Strength program
• Provide training

RLIS

Rural Low-Income School

The purpose of the Rural and Low-Income School (RLIS) grant program is to provide rural
districts with financial assistance for initiatives aimed at improving student achievement.

• Support teacher and principal recruitment and retention
• Provide a transition coordinator for newly
hired teacher, principals, and other school leaders.
• Offer professional development opportunities in areas such as Alaska Studies and Yup’ik Language
