• Hear from local students about being from the Central Valley(The Hoover High School Slam Poets led by SJVWP Teacher Leader Kristen Norton• Explore inquiry-based units• Consider text sets focused on specific issues relatedto the Central Valley (topics like agriculture, family life, immigration)• Think about writing assignments that allow studentsto reflect on their own communities (in poetic or letter form)
Our goal in this workshop will be to consider how we can create writing experiences for studentsthat help them see the value in their communities but also find their voice in making change. Comejoin the San Joaquin Valley Writing Project in a special after school WOW workshop, held atUniversity High School (on the Fresno State campus) that focuses on using writing to explore ourcommunities.
