About the ProgramIn 2017, The William Way LGBT Community Center is teaming up with HIAS PA and community partners to provide welcoming services to LGBT immigrants and refugees from all backgrounds. We’re excited to begin this new program partnership and to welcome those newly arrived from around the world - connecting them with local LGBT affirming resources, social opportunities, and friendly faces. Volunteers in this program will become an “ambassador” to help introduce individuals to WWCC programs, resources, and our community partners' activities.
Time CommittmentA one hour initial training session is required of all participants to orient them to the program, your role as a volunteer and the populations the program serves. We will also ask that volunteers have a current criminal background check (which we can facilitate) and commit to making themselves available to meet with their matched refugee (if assigned) at least 3-4 times during the course of the program. Volunteers would also be committing to staying in contact with the William Way Community Center for monthly check-ins or more often as needed.
