Dear ICOM colleagues

We invite you to participate in the survey dealing with outsourcing in museums – a growing trend that has caused some serious concerns among museum professionals lately. Outsourcing is present in museums for decades especially in some areas of work like security, catering, design, ... Museum staff are all aware that experts outside museums provide a vital service to museums by offering their knowledge, skills and commitment  in a wide variety of specialties. However, more and more services are being outsourced, significantly influencing the leadership of a museum, its daily management and resources, and have impact on employees. ICOM as a global museum network would like to explore to what extent this trend influences the sector  how future developments can be forseen. Therefore, INTERCOM launches this initial step – a survey to map the present state of affairs. Your insight and feedback are much appreciated and thank you for your time.

The results will be used for further anaylises in ICOM network and the report will be available online.
